Going the Extra Mile Winner: James Rose

Our Going the Extra Mile programme highlights the great work our team is doing for our workers and clients across the UK, as well as within their own teams. This month, we’re recognising another exceptional member of our Civils team who has gone above and beyond: Senior Account Manager James Rose.

Meet James

James has been a familiar face in our Liverpool office for nearly three years having worked in recruitment for the past eight years. During his time with PSI Global, James has always worked hard and made it his priority to make sure he finds the right fit for both our clients and candidates. Calling each of his new starters on their first day is a regular part of this for James to make sure our workers are settling in well to their new role, sharing that “it’s great hearing that you’ve placed someone into a job that they’re enjoying!”

Making sure our workers are taken care of, and finding solutions for any issue that comes up, form part of his work motto. He shared that his work motto is “Solutions Not Problems”, which was something Industrial Services Manager Rebecca Law has always said and something that has stuck with him. “There are always new challenges to overcome in our industry, and it really is best to focus on finding solutions rather than dwelling on any problems we may face.”

James’ proactiveness and dedication to our workforce is what caught the eye of colleague and fellow Civils team member Leanne Doyle who nominated James as December’s Going the Extra Mile winner. She said that James was very deserving of the win, revealing that he is, “one of a kind. He could run the whole team if he had to, he’s absolutely smashing it!”

The two have worked together in the industry for the past eight years, and Leanne rates James as one of the best recruitment resourcers she’s ever worked with. “Since I’ve known him, he’s always had such a willingness to help out. James is someone that anyone would be lucky to have on their team, and someone that we can all rely on for any support necessary.” That support over the years, she explained, has included anything from help filling roles for team members to some light technical support.

Community Inspiration

James in turn is inspired by his colleagues, highlighting that there’s always someone around to lend a hand or offer their support when needed. Outside of his team though, he’s inspired by those that try to make a difference and bring about positive change in their own communities and the wider world. “Marcus Rashford’s campaign regarding free school meals is a great example of this,” he explained. “It’s truly inspiring to see how people will rally together to support those in need. I’m a bit football fan and it’s equally inspiring to see how much is donated to charitable causes such as Fans Supporting Foodbanks each matchday.”

While he has been inspired by larger-scale campaigns, James also understands the importance of supporting his local community, and how much of a difference it can make to them – whether that’s where you live or the community you work within. “Working in my community, I’ve learned that small things really can make such a big difference to people,” he said. “Keeping our workers updated regularly throughout the recruitment process can put their minds at ease, and these things are appreciated.”

Teamwork and Workers First

Throughout his career in the recruitment industry, James has worked to build strong relationships with our clients and candidates. He’s found that honesty and communication are essential in building and keeping these relationships going. “It might not seem like much, but just a quick call every Monday and Friday to check everything is going OK and resolve any issues that might arise during the working week is really appreciated by our workers.”

These regular updates throughout the recruitment process make a big difference and going the extra mile to “make life as straightforward as possible for our workforce” is something our workers appreciate from him. This can also include anything from finding accommodation for our candidates that are working further from home, assisting with paperwork, and helping to book training and qualification renewals. All of this, he explains, “allows our workforce on the ground to focus on the job at hand without having any little worries at the back of their mind.”

Hearing this from James, it’s easy to understand why putting our workforce first isn’t just a tagline, but an essential part of his role with PSI Global. “Workers first means doing right by our candidates every single time,” he said.

Having worked with James for the last eight years, Leanne has always known James to work hard for our workforce. “I’ve learned so much around recruitment and helping our workers. He doesn’t get under pressure, he’s always so calm and helps our workers with anything they need.”

Looking Ahead

As we head into a new year, we’ll all likely have some goals we’d like to work towards and things we’re looking forward to. For James, it’s all about travel, football, and keeping pace with the busy start he’s already seen in 2022.

“It was great to finally get away on holiday again last Summer and be able to get back into Anfield this season! I’ve got a trip to Krakow booked for April and am hoping to see Liverpool lift some trophies at the end of the season too,” he shared. “From a work perspective, I’m planning on just keeping the workforce increasing on our Major Projects team. We’ve had an incredibly busy start to 2022 and things don’t look like they’re slowing down anytime soon which is always positive!”

Always positive, and always exciting to have something to work towards for our candidates and clients in the new year.
