Going The Extra Mile April Winner: Liam

When things get busy for the team at PSI Global, we’re all there to support each other and help out where needed. Over the last month when two members of our Major Projects team were away, Liam Brooks stepped up to help out his team and take on the extra work, making him our Going the Extra Mile winner for April.

Meet Liam

Liam started working as an account manager in PSI Global’s Major Projects team in May 2021, having worked in recruitment since 2019. His role throughout his recruitment career has been to work closely with both clients and candidates, ensuring they have everything they need from start to finish of each project.

He was nominated by Senior Account Managers Leanne Doyle and James Rose for stepping up when they were on leave during the last month. “He deserves the nomination because when people are off in the team, he manages to do everything that’s needed,” Leanne said, adding that when she and James were both off, Liam “took control and got on with it.” James echoed this, adding that Liam is unfazed when having to take on extra challenges.

Throughout his nearly three years with us, Liam shared that he has become a lot more efficient and agrees with James that he’s become unfazed by anything new that crosses his path. “I would say a lot more trust has been put into my role now too,” he said. “I enjoy the fact that I can be left with a project or situation and Steve and James know they can trust it will be fulfilled with no issues.”

Putting Our Workforce First

During his time at PSI Global, Liam has worked on a number of different projects, giving him experience across Major Projects and Civils. “A majority of the projects tend to be the same,” he explained, “but the hardest projects where I felt I developed in my role would be A30 and M62.”

Working with our candidates on these projects has become a strength of his. Leanne concluded that finding the right candidate for each role is his greatest strength, while James shared that Liam excels at solving any issues that may come up with our candidates. “He’s great speaking to the lads, solving any problems they might have on site – whether that might be someone needing PPE ordered, helping to sort training, or applying for a CSCS card.”

Not only is he great with our candidates and workforce, but after working in the recruitment industry for several years, his industry knowledge continues to grow. According to James, Liam is well aware of specifics regarding things like roles, qualifications, and cards. “If we’re given a more unique requirement or need to source a training course, he’s always on the ball straight away.”

Being a Team Player

While our priority is always to look after our workforce, it’s also important that as a team we look out for each other. James acknowledged how Liam is always looking out for his team members, and shared he’s recently stepped up when James was facing time away from work due to personal issues.

“I’m going through some family issues at the moment where I’ve needed to take some time away from the office. Liam has been brilliant with me both regarding work and on a personal level. He’s covered a lot of my work during the days I’ve been out of action, which is no easy feat without a proper handover, and personally he’s been really supportive always checking in to make sure I’m ok and those around me are. He’s really allowed me the peace of mind to not have any work concerns while also knowing I’ve got great people around me for if I need anything.”

For Liam, having a great team around him is what motivates him to work harder and more efficient, as well as wanting to be a better version of himself, whether that’s at work or day to day life. He enjoys working at PSI Global because of how well everyone gets on, as well as the company culture. “I feel everyone in the office shares a very similar set of collective values, which can sometimes be hard in an office space.”

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, Liam shared that he’s hoping to continue to progress in his role and make improvements anywhere he can.

Outside of work, he enjoys going to the gym, watching Liverpool, and going to music events.
