Our Industrial Services team have been busy lately on sites across the UK from Plymouth to Rosyth. One project that has been particularly busy has been Harland and Wolff in Belfast, and one team member that has gone the extra mile on that project is Account Manager Katie Coggins, this month’s Going the Extra Mile winner!
Katie joined PSI Global’s Industrial Services team in June 2022 following an apprenticeship that included recruitment, training, and various admin tasks. It was the recruitment part of that role that she enjoyed the most, helping people to get back into work.
“I started my recruitment career as a resourcer which consisted of a lot more candidate centred work, but since then I have been promoted to an account manager,” Katie explained. “I now work with both sides of the business, candidates and clients. Account managing is something I definitely prefer as I have enjoyed building a relationship with both new and old clients within the Industrial Services team.”
The main project Katie is working on at the minute is with Harland and Wolff in Belfast, one she says is the most interesting project she’s worked on so far during her time at PSI. She shared that the project “is such a big job at the minute, it means all of my focus has been on scaffolders for this site.”
Her work on our site in Belfast was why Industrial Services Director Rebecca Law felt Katie deserved the nomination. “Katie has been a massive support to the scaffolding division, particularly in Belfast where she has been supporting candidates through the registration process, and making sure they’re set up and ready for payment.”
Rebecca also shared that what really stood out to her was how well she has handled the pressure of working on a site with a high number of candidates. “It can be really difficult,” she said, “but on this project in particular, Katie has got to grips with it and has been very organised.”
While Belfast is her main priority now, Katie is looking forward to working with more sites and projects again towards the end of the year, expanding her experience and getting more people in the UK back to work.
Katie wanted to pursue a career in recruitment as she enjoyed working closely with candidates to get them back into work and ensure they were taken care of each step of the way. “My motivation every day at work is making positive impacts on people’s lives by helping them find a job,” she shared. “Being able to help people find a career they are passionate about is something I definitely find rewarding. Often we think of work as just a mundane task, but to most people this task is a reliant source of income for their families at home.”
Rebecca echoed this, finding that Katie is genuine about wanting to help more people back into work. “Katie really does care about the candidates,” she shared. “She listens to each of their issues and genuinely wants to help.”
Throughout her time with us at PSI Global, she has found that in addition to placing candidates in a new job, it’s her colleagues that she enjoys the most and feels makes our company culture a unique one. “Working with such a unique group of people makes your job that bit easier,” she shared. “Working in recruitment can be stressful at times, but working with a team that is supportive and happy to help at any given time puts your mind at ease straight away.”
As one of our Mental Health Ambassadors, Katie understands the importance of looking after your mental health both in and out of work. While she helps our workforce understand this through weekly emails and calls, she also understands that it’s important to take care of her own mental health just as she helps our workforce with theirs.
Each of our Extra Mile winners receives both a £50 voucher for themselves and they can nominate a charity for a £50 donation. Katie chose Making Space, an organisation that provides support and services for adults living with mental health needs, learning disabilities, or dementia, a donation in line with her values around mental health and wellbeing.
Outside of work, Katie enjoys spending time with her loved ones, and doing anything from exploring new places to getting outside or catching up with friends over a glass of wine. Travelling abroad is also something she enjoys, “I find having a holiday or two booked for the year is always a priority, as having a work-life balance is equally important.”
