Expansion for Industrial Services Team

At PSI Global Recruitment, we continue to look for new and innovative ways to approach recruitment, and for us, that starts with making sure we have the right people on board. For our Industrial Services team, that means new faces and new promotions in 2023.

Career Advancements in the Team

The Industrial Services team is led by Industrial and Marine Director Rebecca Law, who has managed the growth of the team based on project location and demand. The team consists of five members in the Liverpool head office, two on-site in Plymouth, and two also on-site in Rosyth. This year has seen promotions so far in the team for Jade Metcalf, Craig Ankers, and Katie Coggins.

In January, longtime PSI Global employee Jade received a promotion to Client Relationship Consultant. The title change is a better fit for Jade’s role in the team, which involves generating and bringing in new business and working with new clients to build key relationships within the company. She also makes regular site and head office visits, arranging meetings to introduce what PSI Global can offer our new clients.

“I massively enjoy my role, and get to meet many people in the process, as well as supplying and visiting some great projects nationwide,” she shared.

Craig received a promotion to Account Manager in May. He was brought into PSI Global as a Recruitment Resourcer to help recruit in Portsmouth and has been working on that project and several others since joining the team in July 2022. Having worked with and built a good rapport with our clients in Portsmouth, Craig felt that the move to Account Manager was the right one for his career. He was previously working in a 360 role before joining PSI Global, and the move was something he “wanted to polish up on and get back into.”

“I’ve been well supported by my colleagues and superiors here at PSI to pick up the resourcing role and get to the next benchmark,” Craig explained. “With the team in Liverpool growing, I was interested in playing my part and to help grow and bring in new business of my own.”

Katie has also taken on a new role in recent months, moving up from Trainee Account Manager to Account Manager as she looks to take on more clients across the UK. Starting out only recently in her recruitment career, the promotion to Account Manager was something that she was looking to work her way up to when she first joined.

“The promotion has allowed me to get more involved with the client side of things, working and corresponding with them directly instead of going through other members of the team,” Katie said.

One of the things that has drawn her to recruitment and PSI Global is that no day is ever the same. She added that “there’s always something to do, from posting jobs to speaking with new clients.”

The growth of the team itself has been a big boost to the whole team. Katie pointed out that watching the team grow with new members has meant new ideas to the team and help from others where needed. “I like working in the team as I always feel fully supported if I ever need a hand with something. Someone is always there to offer help, and as a team, we are all working on learning each other’s role so we can all help each other.”

A Welcome Return

Brendan Robinson was previously a member of our Construction and Engineering recruitment team and has recently come back to PSI Global to join our Industrial Services team as an Account Manager and Team Leader. He brings a wealth of experience to the team and knows the company well already. His background and experience in the Navy means he’s already been in some of the dockyards we currently work in.

Of his return to PSI Global, Brendan shared that, “returning to PSI, after leaving to explore other avenues, has been an unexpected but welcome experience. It’s a genuine testament to the importance of maintaining positive relationships with former employers.”

A key area Brendan will be focusing on is the day-to-day management of the Industrial Services and Marine team. This includes focusing on the development of each team member through regular one-on-ones and monitoring KPIs. He’ll also be focusing on team and individual development, ensuring everyone meets their goals within the team and working with them to achieve individual goals.

Taking on this new leadership role was something that Brendan welcomed as a new direction in his career. “This decision was an obvious choice for me,” he said. “It presented an opportunity for me to further develop my leadership abilities and apply the valuable skills and knowledge I acquired in my previous roles.”

Creating Opportunities in Plymouth

One of our large-scale industrial projects continues to be Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth. Senior Account Manager Yasmin Lobb has overseen this since joining us in January 2021, but as the project has grown, so has the need for assistance in recruitment and admin.

To resolve this, we brought in Cameron Smith at the end of 2022 to assist in the office. The addition of Cameron to the team has been a big help for Senior Account Manager Yasmin who had been managing day-to-day operations on her own. “Before Cameron started, I had the team in Liverpool to lean on for extra support,” she explained. “We’re now able to manage everything between ourselves here in Plymouth. Having Cameron working with me has given me more time to communicate with the travelling workers and help with their BPSS.”

Cameron has been keeping busy with the onboarding process of new workers on-site and has found the role to be a very fulfilling one. “We build these one-to-one connections where I like to believe all of our workers feel comfortable approaching me no matter what,” he revealed. “I like the fact that we have the opportunity to catch up on a weekly basis and touch down with each worker to ensure they’re happy on-site and that no issue is overlooked.”

Though only being with us for a short time so far, Cameron is very much enjoying his role at PSI Global and has found the job to be the most rewarding he’s had. He remarked that “being able to help people who are not in work or are unhappy where they currently work is incredibly satisfying.” He added that even after a long day of work, he still leaves at the end of the day knowing he’s provided a positive service.

Having worked together for the past six months, Yasmin and Cameron have a good system in place. “I am regularly in communication with the Composite, Painting, and Scaffolding Managers at Kaefer and the Works Manager at Volkerstevin for recruitment needs,” Yasmin explained. “After advertising and finding the correct candidates, Cameron takes on the majority of face-to-face interviews and compiling BPSS forms with the potential candidates. It’s a massive help when we have new starts with setting time aside to print the new starter forms and send them over.”

Yasmin added that having Cameron on board has also helped to give her more time to build our presence in the local community by attending job events and building relationships with organisations like Seetec Pluss.

“With the amount of local employees we’ve brought on board over the last two to three years, along with the local events we’ve attended, football sponsorships, and advertising, PSI Global is becoming more well-known in the local community. This has given us more scope to grow to new clients and potentially build our team over time.”

New Additions in Scotland

Having a large presence up in Rosyth meant the need to have someone local on-site to assist with the onboarding process. Catherine joined us in January and her presence has been beneficial in the assistance of the security clearance process for our workforce.

“She’s been an asset in helping out our workforce in Rosyth, we’re really pleased to have her there for them,” added Rebecca.

In addition to having Catherine on-site, we’ve also brought in Ionut as our Labour and Training Coordinator. Ionut assists with the recruitment of our workforce on-site, helping to bring in both local and overseas workers. He’s also our dedicated Train the Painter trainer in Scotland. As we are an Agency Affiliate Member of Train the Painter, it’s been beneficial to have someone within our team who can run these courses.

It’s been not just beneficial, but a big help in our Community Initiative to help place more local people in work and shorten the skills gap. “I have really enjoyed doing the TTP training for those that have started on the Community Initiative,” Ionut shared. “They were all really interested and engaged throughout, and I can’t wait to see their development over the next nine weeks.”

While Catherine and Ionut have only joined us this year, we’ve had a presence on-site in Rosyth for some time. This has meant we’ve had an ongoing relationship with our client there, doing regular visits and helping out in the local community. Recently we did a joint fundraising event to raise funds for a defibrillator and its maintenance on-site.

A Productive Future Ahead

With all of this growth in the team, new projects, clients, and jobs are certain to follow. Director Rebecca Law revealed that she sees the future of Industrial Services sitting in technology. “The future of Industrial looks like investing in new technology to make completing BPSS applications faster, in turn making us more productive.”

Rebecca also shared that the team is looking to establish new team members, locations, and continue to build on the strong foundation they already have with their growing team. She’s also looking forward to “building on the success of our Community Initiatives across the UK.”

We’re all looking forward to seeing what more comes from the Industrial Services team! Right now, we have several opportunities across the UK that the team is looking to fill. If you have experience in the industry and are looking for work, head to our Jobs Page now to apply for your next job.
